Retired Ambulance In Service in El Salvador
In February of 2002, the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department donated a retired 1989 Ford F350 Ambulance to Los Camilleros, a rescue organization based in El Salvador. Mr. Giovani Hernandez, Director of Los Camilleros, drove the ambulance to El Salvador and accompanied by Fairfax County Technician Rony Avalos. Recently, Keith Holtermann, an Associate Dean for Health Services at George Washington University, was in El Salvador and caught our old ambulance on a standby for a pilgrimage during Holy Week.

Helping Out In A Time Of Need
After the Ringgold Vol. Fire Department (RVFD) burnt down last December, the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department along with the River Bend Volunteer Fire Department, Virginia Beach and Prince Georges County Fire Departments stepped in to donate equipment to help Ringgold get back in business. The Vienna VFD donated its 1981 Hahn pumper that it was planning to retire upon arrival of its new American LaFrance engine. Former VVFD Chief Bill Ellis and Sgt. Mike Paruti took the Hahn down to Ringgold and presented Ringgold Chief Mike Neal the title to the 1981 Hahn pumper. The VVFD has a long history of helping out departments in need and last year donated its reserve 1989 Ford Ambulance to a volunteer EMS organization in El Salvador. This unit replaced a flatbed pickup the organization was using to transport patients. Click here for more information on the fire from firehouse.com.
