1946 Maxim Pumper

The Maxim was featured in a June 3, 2005 article in the Washington Times. Click here to view it.

Picture of 1946 Maxim Fire Engine This 1946 Maxim fire truck was one of the first pumpers produced by the Maxim Motor Company after WW II. Vehicle No. 7 was delivered to VVFD in January of 1946 and remained in operational service with VVFD until 1968.

In keeping with the long-standing VVFD tradition of donating surplus equipment to new fire companies, No. 7 was given to the Shenandoah Farms VFD near Front Royal, VA. Unfortunately, several years later No. 7 was literally put out to pasture. Hugh Burke, a former Vienna postmaster and longtime Vienna volunteer firefighter, discovered No. 7 rusting away in a pasture and rescued No. 7, moving it to his farm which was adjacent to the Mt. Jackson VFD.

In 1994, the VVFD Ladies Auxiliary purchased No. 7 and brought it home. After a painstaking renovation, No. 7 once again resides in its original fire department.

Today, No. 7 can be seen in parades throughout the region, including the Apple Blossom Firefighter's Parade in Winchester, Virginia, and the town of Vienna Halloween Parade.

Come holiday time, No. 7 delivers Santa to the Town of Vienna Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. If you're lucky, on the days leading up to Christmas you can see Santa riding around Vienna giving away candy canes and bringing holiday cheer to all.
